I have used several shelves and settled on the 1/2 inch MDF one in the picture.I have found that I did not care for shelves made from maple butcher block, Corian and glass. I have found it very important to not deaden the already "PRaT challenged" VPI. My deck also retains the springs in the suspension opposed to the "upgrade" navcom pucks that were offered.
The TT is on Tip-Toes which are resting on nickels. The Cornet is on rubber feet. I have no hum issues with this placement and am able to use 1/2 meter cables between the tone arm, sut and the phono preamp.
I do need to come up with a different equipment shelf but am still researching my options.
