AFAIK the S2 IS the improved version with the plastic bearing. I have one with a detachable headshell on a TD125mk2. The one with the detachable headshell is a little heavier compared to the one with the fixed headshell but still indeed not suited for say a DL160 MC. I had a VdH MC1 on it, they have a high compliance but they're heavy weight so i had a hard time setting it up. Better stick with MM's on the S2. I had it rewired with VdH silver cable, much clearer sound.
Prices for vintage tonearms have exploded the last few years. Alas under 500 euro there's not much choice in new arms either. Rega, Project.
