Personally, I prefer the 3009 series II to the 3009 improved - see above for a picture.

The design is more simple, it's easy to set-up, it can accommodate a much wider range of cartridges, and it comes with a steel saddle as opposed to the nylon saddle on the 3009 improved.

Incidentally, there's was never a 3009 series II with a fixed headshell, the option of a fixed or detachable headshell only applied to the 3009 improved.
