I wonder......

...if the light approach plinth design (I've seen 26 to 36 mm)sounds better than the massive multi layered birch plywood plinth?

I have been reading all the postings I can find with the Garrard 301 in it. So far, one thing I noticed was that there are two groups of thought with regards to plinth construction. Those who employed massive multi layered ones and the other the light (fewer layers)ones. Shindo for example makes the latter. Two persons I found so far in my researched devoted enormous amount of text to explain how to tackle the "vibration" issues of the 301. Both opted to use the light plinth type.

Having said that, I noticed that the owner of this particular table is selling a heavy plinth where his 301 was mounted and a couple of tonearms in Audiogon at present. I am sure he likes his Garrard and he wants to get the best result from it. Was the sale a result of a better performance from this present plinth I do not know. But I am very interested to find out.

I know nothing about the virtues of different designs of plinth for the 301 have. I want to learn because I have a 301 on the way and will have to decide which plinth type to construct.

regards
