The conventional wisdom seems to be that one should not use weights on suspended tables. I also thought I read that Herbie does not recommend using clamps on his mat. I did both. Hmmm. As I said below, the side effect seems slightly positive and there is no apparent downside from what I can gather. On the Thorens website they state quite clearly that this weight is suitable for all Thorens tables.I thought about other clamps, but really wanted the look. So with the adjusted suspension I gather it can do not harm.
Have you thought about these Achromats from The Funk Firm? You can either replace the platter altogether or use one of them as a mat. The first is rather extreme and they won't fit a Thorens I guess, but they seem to be getting good write-ups. I am happy with my Herbie's Mat so won't be changing, but the theory behind Achromats sounds solid.
