Re: Dual 1019 and 1229 bearings

Just got lucky in the thrifts, Dual 1219 with an AT15XE cart for 10 euro! OK the TT was a fixer upper, i couldn't get the speed change and pitch control up and running but it spins on a set speed, say 33RPM for Lp's. Then the automatics and everything works. Not bad, not bad for a ca. 1970 idler wheel drive TT in its original crappy plinth. Heavy platter, big motor. Way better and more silent than a stock Lenco, better arm too.
The Lenco has a simple but very good main bearing with a single ball and a solid spindle. The Dual has a hollow axis to accommodate the normal and changer spindles. Underneath is a multiple ball bearing. The Lenco platter is even heavier than the Dual, 4 kg vs. 3.1. An L75 is a very simple manual TT, more suited for a rebuild than the complex Dual. IMHO you would have to strip the Dual, take off the mechanics, make an electrical on/off switch for the motor and a simple lever to put the idler wheel against the pulley. OTOH the original Lenco arm has to be replaced, the Dual arm is usable with MM carts.

Greetings Freek.
