Great and valid points. When I go "surround vinyl" right now; it's all being processed to digital via the decoders in my preamp. Whether it be Neo-6 Music/Movie or DPL2x or any of the music surround modes in my preamp.I like your concept too, because I've played with it digitally---keep the front mains in pure stereo and the "recreate" from there. I've used a stereo analog preamp to drive the front mains in pure stereo and then use a surround processor to separately create a center and surround channel information with an independent stereo signal. As I recall, that was one of the best surround formats I encountered because it kept the front stereo L/R's in real stereo. DTS Neo 6 music is "supposed" to do that (keep the front mains 9in perfect and unmolested stereo), but it is a bit off based on my experiments.
