Re: How does that Volvere arm base adjuster work?

I am not sure whether you can mount a JMW9. but it is probable, as I understand that it shares the mounting characteristics of a Rega RB300. I have a previous version of the Volvere but I do not think that the armboard has changed with the Mark IV.
The Avid Volvere armboard is part of the same casting as the suspended subchassis. The armboard is ready cut for SME arms, with their characteristic long, wide mounting hole. It also has provision for Linn arms. Most other arms need mounting plates. The rega mounting plate (which I think is supplied with the TT) is best thought of as a two piece circular affair, the top half of which sits across the SME mounting slot. Importantly, the top part has a screw thread on its inner circumference. This means that VTA/SRA can be set by screwing the mounting plate up or down the RB300's screw thread on the base, raisign or lowering the effective height of the arm. The arm is then held in position by a bolt on the underside of the armboard.

So, if the JMW9 tonearm pillar shares the same screw thread as the Rega tonearm pillar, it will be a cinch. If not, Avid will make a plate, but it would be worth enquiring first, as I think that it may be costly.

However, I would say that the main thing to bear in mind is that Conrad Mas, the Avid designer, does not think that unipivots provide an ideal match to his suspended turntables. You would best ask him for the technical reasons. But if it means you can buy the table and change the arm at a later date, I would say, go for it.
