Perhaps I should clarify: The current turntable is a Technics SL-D20. Aforementioned friend replaced it with the Goldring I mentioned, and gave me the old Technics in exchange for my setup help. I fitted it with an Ortofon 310 cartridge, and it works, but it's p-mount, has a plastic platter, and honestly doesn't sound all that good. I'm looking for an inexpensive upgrade. I like the Goldring, but that's about $350, and I'm looking to spend no more than $200 after ancillary charges such as new belt, etc.So I haven't bought a "cheap turntable of no use". In fact, I haven't bought a turntable yet at all.
