Take a look at the pawn shops, I picked up a Pioneer Pl-12D II for five dollars (with OMB 10 Cart), new belt $7. Some oil, made new cart tags and cleaned the contacts. It sounded nice, a better cart would be a nice improvment. It was not as good as my Pioneer PL-500 or the Rega clone or even the Thorens 125 MKII but they all have better carts on them. I still enjoyed listening to it and that's what counts. Once I was happy with the sound of the table I hand delivered it to a friend.You never know what you might find at a pawn shop to get you started.
