I understand the ebay impulse, but buying vintage turntables as a newbie is a real gamble. I'm not sure where you live, but it might be worth checking out some of your local mom and pop electronics(and/or electronics repair) stores to see if they sell used turntables. Sure you'll pay more than on ebay, but you'll save on shipping, probably get some kind of 30 day warranty, and will establish a relationship with someone who might be able to help you out down the road.
