The last laugh... (long+pointless)

So, it's been almost a year since I picked up my Grado Laboratory turntable and I love this thing.

I got from a "professional" estate sale company whose pricing scheme is to look everthing up in Ebay completed auctions and then charge the highest price +20%. To make matters worse, when you pay up, the woman who runs the company continues the hard-sell by saying (your item) is the "best" every made to justify her high prices. She charges $3.00 for records, so you know she's evil.

Because I'm criminally cheap, I had been boycotting sales held by this company, but while running some errands two towns over, I happened by a sale so I decided to stop in. The sale was in the final hours of the second day, and most of the good stuff was gone. I spied the Grado on a table and inquired on the price. The price came back as $5 because "it just hums". As usual, as I paid up I had to hear the woman tell me "that's one of the best turntables ever made".

After a year of listening I would have to agree. Super stable speed, and great sound. Unfortunately, the cantalever was bent on the original Grado moving coil cartridge (that was why it hummed). Belts a still available, believe it or not.

My girlfriend still insists that it looks exactly like the Wilcox-Gay that they played square dance music on at her gradeschool, but I don't care. I sent her the link to the completed auction just for fun. I don't think it will change here mind, but I'm in Giant vintage turntable nirvana.

John
