There are aluminum primers that will allow a good bond with other paints. I think Rustleum makes one, as do other companies.But if your stripping it all down, you might also think about either powder coat or anodizing.
I'm planning to get my Russco studio B anodized and polished by a pro shop after I get my plinth completed.
