panasonic SG-2200 turntable rattle

Hi, i picked up the big old SG-2200 from a charity shop the other day, and there are a couple of things wrong with it -
1. there is a very slight pitch change every few seconds, and sometimes a larger pitch jump (i'm assuming this is something to do with the drive belt, but i just thought i'd check with people here)
2. i get quite a bad turntable rattle on some records, and when i checked it yesterday, the turntable rattles even when there is no record or stylus on it.
has anyone got any ideas as to what I can do to fix this? I'm relatively new to the whole thing, so any help would be really appreciated...
