Okay, you decide...shell out nearly $500 for a retip by SS, or first try and fix it. Or, have a more experienced collector fix it for you. There happen to be a few of us that fix and even retip.
Let me try and help the fix, first. You need an eye loupe of about 10X and a pair of tweezers that are very, very fine at the tip, along with a very gentle, steady pair of hands. If the cantilever is not crimped badly, you might be able to gently manipulate the cantilever back into playable condition. There is nothing to lose, if you are contemplating a retip.
In the worst case, the cantilever will fold/crimp and might even snap off. Try and save the tip, if you can, as Denon used nice diamonds. Soundsmith, or any of the $300. plus retippers, only need a stub of a cantilever to graft on a new cantilever/stylus assembly.
I can do it for under $200. plus that Denon tip traded in...I can install a conical or elliptical diamond on a high quality aluminum cantilever. I would even entertain a trade of tube gear as payment...
