you have an MM stage, right? the investment, then, is only the cost of the MM cartridge. could be worth a try just to satisfy your curiosity. if you are constrained on the MC end (i.e., not going higher than a 20XL or the SUT+MM stage you have/use), then there's only an upside. if performance is "worse", then you simply stick with the MC/SUT/MM stage.

i think the 20XL is a good cartridge; i am open to thinking that a well-implemented MM might be competitive) or better than it. when i compared the 20XL to a flagship MC cartridge+solid SUT+MM stage, i did find it lacking.

i'd still be open to hearing a top-notch MM cartridge, but at this stage it would surprise me if the performance could be better than a top-end LOMC+top step-up+top MM stage.
