Re: Anybody returned from MC to MM?

I guess the reason I am asking is because I presently have an LP12 with a Dyna 17D2 that does everything I could ever hope for in a cart. It seems that every preamp, receiver and integrated I have ever bought have all had MM phono stages. I have been using a stepup, but it does pick up noise. I have oriented it in all manner of directions, used various cables and even wrapped it in aluminum sheathing. Once the music starts, I don't hear it, but when I record LPs to CD, I do hear it quite a bit. Given the price of these things, I don't want to buy another one. In addition, I am really tired of the extra cables. I had thought about dropping down to the Dyna 10x5, but I just don't have the cash to buy anything at moment and for the near future. I have been thinking about putting my Linn K18 MM back on my TT. I have never installed a cart on my TT so I am just a little hesitant - I have always let a dealer do it, but there are no Linn dealers in my area. I'm afraid that if I don't like the Linn, I won't be able to go back and set the Dyna up the way it was. I seem to remember that the Linn had good PRaT, but was fairly lean sounding. The 17D2 is just an all around good cartridge, so I was wondering just how much of the Dyna I would miss by putting the Linn back on. I was just interested to hear how others reacted when going back to an MM cart.
