This could become a great thread ! I just hope that nobody takes these threads too personally to the point of calling others' opinions wrong...This subjective hobby is all about combinations of equipment, with each of us finding our own synergy of gear.
In some setups, there are obviously personal, subjective reasons for switching to and from various gear. While I often use some of my favorite early stereo mm carts, I always return to my reference mc.
But, there are many mc carts that I would rather not listen with !
Especially compared to some smooth and sweet sounding moving magnet carts, some of the moving coils can sound overly bright, thin in the bass, overly analytical, and more. Likewise, there are mm carts that do not staisfy me.
My reference mm is a Pickering/Stanton 380. Sweet Sound !
My reference mc is the Ortofon SPU/SPE......Sweetest Sound !
