RVG certainly had his own 'sound'. One interesting thing I've found, though, is that the Blue Note sound seems to be quite influenced by Lion, who perhaps was one of few people to control RVG. On other RBG issues where Lion was not involved, the "RVG sound" is often quite different and a bit less appealing/involving (in my opinion). I still go for the music -- and the music can override the recording/production.RVG & Lion made a great pair and -- together -- made the BN house sound.
