Re: What are good 0.01g scales?

I have purchased Jennings scales on the internet, the ones with 0.01 accuracy, for about $20 US. One failed after about three years. The one I have now has a 50 g range. I was concerned about its accuracy and the low end and used some very accurate laboratory calibration weights to measure it. For weights of 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 g, it read 1.00, 1.50, and 2.00, which I found extremely impressive. I was most interested in this range for obvious reasons, but a 50 g weight also resulted in the same accuracy. I also tested repeatability, and several removing and replacing of the weights gave the same answer. However, putting the weights near the edge of the platform changed the readout a few 1/100ths of a g. You have to be very careful about wind currents and vibrations. 0.01 g is an extemely small amount, and if you are breathing lightly on the scale, you can change its value a fair amount. I also have the Shure balance-beam scale, and there is no question that the Jennings is far more accurate and simple to use.
