I can only imagine how bad your vinyl must have sounded considering how bad you describe the sound of your current CDP.Unlike the guy down below who recommends you upgrade your CDP I want to suggest you don't. I'm not sure you can handle the trauma.
Maybe your cartridge was broken, maybe it wasn't setup right, maybe the P5 isn't as good as the P3, maybe you didn't have your Rega properly isolated I don't know.
Yea I used to consider myself a vinylphile myself but I'm too embarrassed to continue to admit it - posts like yours are why.
