its all black box stuff anyway

I don't think I'll ever understand where when why how something sounds the way it does. I recently built a pair of GR Research AV2s and replaced my Alon Is. The GRs sound a little bright and harsh with the vinyl and smooth and warm with the CD. The alons were the exact opposit. They were brighter with the cd and warmer with the vinyl. WTF?!?!?! Everything else is exactly the same. I have not let the GRs break in yet so maybe thats a function of break in period. Even if it is, its still strange.

Just for the record - I'm very happy with the GRs. They are a great value and a great sounding speaker. Even if they don't warm to vinyl, they are still superior to the Alons, at least in my set up. I don't think I was powering the Alons properly and couldn't deal properly with their dipole room placement finickyness. If I had the appropirate power and correct room placement... I dunno, it would have been a knock down dragemout for sure.
