Re: Mark 1 has a ferrous (magnetic) platter

Sorry, but that is not correct - the non-magnetic platter was ALWAYS an accessory, never standard.
You can see here my TD 124 Mk. II:

The First series has a more yellow-ish colour, the mat has more ribs and the knob for changing the speed has another shape, see this picture:
