I have an Oracle Delphi turntable Mk I that was upgraded some years ago to a Mk. II and has a custom power supply (DC). I just checked the speed with my new KAB speedstrobe and everything looks good. It has a Fidelity Research FR-64fx arm, which I was told is a good tonearm. It currently has a Sumiko Virtuoso Boron cartidge mounted in it, but that has some miles on it and is maybe 10 years old or older. My phono preamp is the Musical Fidelity XLPS V 3.My question is this. What cartridge would be a good match for about $200? Ideally, I think I'd like to buy an inexpensive catridge ($100?) for poor shape records and maybe a $200-$300 cartridge for my better audiophile records. I don't want to go too crazy on this because I might sell the Oracle in less than a year and buy a new turntable, like a VPI Scout or Scoutmaster. Is there any maintainance I should do on the turntable or tonearm before I proceed with a new cartridge?
