Adding mass to the counterweight so that it can be moved closer to the pivot will reduce effective mass only minimally. A lower mass headshell will have a much greater effect. However, if you experience no difficulty playing records, I don't think you have much of a problem and I doubt your cartridge will be damaged.Good luck,
