Re: i highly recommend...

Not sure if you meant haven't heard them or not aware that I meant the Rudy Van Gelder remastered Blue Note CDs with added cuts (usually) and added liner notes looking back historically at the release.

I got into Blue Note in a big way when a local record chain decided to dump slow moving CD stock at 50% off, and that included a lot of Blue Note. I bought every title I could find and got hooked. I've bought a load more in the last two years, and the vinyl just isn't around. For some reason, I missed most of the Blue Note stuff when it came out, as it didn't get airplay or shelf space where I lived. I did get into vinyl Monk, Miles, Herbie Mann, Jimmy Smith, Howard Roberts, John Handy, and a lot of the swing stuff that went before (Goodman, Krupa, Rich, Hampton, et al.

I have Page One and have to agree - great album.

I feel very fortunate to have discovered a gold mine of jazz I missed, that is now increasingly available. I'll keep looking for affordable vinyl, but eBay prices are just beyond me at this point.
