Has anyone picked up a copy of his bio, Rat Race Blues? It is fairly well known that Gryce had it rough in the music business, as he was one of the first Black musicians to attempt to hold onto his own publishing, start his own label, etc. He wound up butting heads with the mob, in the process. How on earth he kept his cool and was able to still play and write so well is astonishing.
