I've often heard it stated that even on a budget player LP beats CD. i can understand why people say this, as a deck like the Rega 3 puts life into the music that is often missing with cheap CD players.On the other hand, the verdict is swayed by the kind of music you listen to. When I moved from a Planar 3 to a Pink Triangle (still with RB300) I was amazed how much more forgiving the system was of poor recordings and noisy discs. I also found that big orchestral music was completely beyond the Rega, as it sounded congested and the soundstage collapsed in big tuttis, in a way I have never heard from a CD. I only really sorted this problem when I replaced the Rega arm on the Pink with an SME IV.
