Re: your thoughts on the Scout platter/bearing upgrade?

My preowned HW19 came in MkIII configuration with the split stainless steel/plexi plinth, MkIII springs, standard motor, first generation PLC and seperate armboard with Sumiko MMT arm. I lucked out last year and within the same week purchased a MkIV heavy platter/bearing, MkIV springs, Sumiko FT4 arm and already cut for the FT4 super armboard, all very reasonably priced. The upgrade from MkIII to MkIV was appaarent right away with the heavy platter/bearing/springs, the arm probably didn't change much. Later I purchased the SAMA and again I could hear a noticable improvement. A maple plinth should be an improvement over the VPI MDF plinth but I would highly recommend the VPI stainless/plexi plinth which is a tough item to find these days. The MkIV platter/bearing show up used occasionally but can be pricey but well worth the money. A decked out HW19 MkIV is a big step up from the MkIII. It might be cheaper to purchase a complete MkIV than upgrade an exsisting table and than sell the MkIII which command decent prices also.
