Because I have conflicting evidence and I want to buy one

Why? Because I have been looking to buy a Denon DP-80 and I am doing my homework before buying. I do not currently own one or I would know the answer already.

One was recently on ebay (including user manual in english) and I was going to bid. But first I asked the seller if he had the transport screws and did he know how to install them. His answer was

"There are (never were) no transport screws for this model. It has no provision for them. When shipping the item you simply lift the turntable platter out of the bearing well and pack it separately."

and I did not believe him. Some other things he said sounded fishy as well. So in an attempt to answer the question I obtained a DP-80 service manual. It did not answer my question but the schematic does clearly show the internal transformer mounted on isolation bushings. It is my understanding that this is the item that is held securely by the shipping screws (as it is in the DP-72L, DP-62L and DP-75). I do own a DP-72L and it clearly notes in the user manual to remove the shipping screws before using. I was assuming that the same would be the case in the DP-80 user manual IF it had said screws. I subsequently asked the seller to look in the user manual for me to check. He never replied back.

So them I went to HIFIDO and did a search though pictures of sold DP-80's looking for clues. Most photos of DP-80's with the platters off show the two transport screw holes empty. One photo showed a table with TWO screws installed. According to the service manual schematic these two holes lineup with two corners of the internal transformer suspended below. Hence my confusion.

If I could just locate a DP-80 user manual myself I wouldnt have to ask here.

So there you go. Long winded answer. The problem is that so many of these big Denon tables are shipped on ebay by idiots or liars who either dont know or dont care how to ship it correctly. But without accurate knowlege it can sometimes be hard for a buyer to tell. I dont want to bid $800 for a table just to get it damaged because the transformer broke free and damaged the internals when those miscreants in brown drop the package off the back of the truck. Buyer beware.

I wish I could find one for sale localy.
