Scout leveling question

I'm confused, I noticed the right channel on my scout was louder then the left. I know it's the TT. I checked all the alignments and found leveling off front to back. The front was too low. So after leveling, I throw a record on and clamp it down, and put the level on the record for curiosity, due to the rubber washer, the record is higher in the center and slopes out, if leveling is so critical, why doesn't the record lay flat on the platter? Should it? Thanks for any replys.... John
