Help: My New Cornwalls Have Upset the Balance...Long...

My system is listed below.

My problem is this. Since acquiring a pair of Klipsch Cornwalls a couple months back, I am very unhappy with the sound of rock music on my system. It is just way too bass heavy, and not enough treble and midrange. On top of the bass heaviness, it is also a boomy bass rather than well defined.

If I put on a jazz or classical album, the system is pure joy. The horns and/or strings jump out of those horns with musicality and naturalness. I've never heard piano sound so rich and defined. The bass is perfect.

If I slip on Steely Dan or U2 or Stevie Wonder, it is listenable, but no where near the quality I am getting from the jazz/classical pressings. I am left wanting more midrange and treble.

My previous speakers were Klipsch Heresy, and all vinyl across the spectrum sounded fantastic (though no where near what the Cornwalls are doing now for jazz/classical.)

I am blessed with a Sumiko FT-4 arm with on-the-fly VTA adjustment. I have tried "tuning back the bass" with VTA adjustment, but I am just not hitting the point where I am happy. I've been trying for 5-6 weeks now, with the smallest of adjustments sometimes helping, but not to a point where I am truly happy.

To make the problem even more sticky, I recently tried my NAD C542 cd player running into my vinyl playback system to see how rock music sounded through the Cornwalls. It was MUCH better than the turntable! The best the NAD has ever sounded.

I assume this means that maybe I should be looking into a different preamp. The scary part is that the new preamp may upset the wonderful jazz/classical balance I have going.

I suppose the other option is to assemble a second turntable and find a combo that is good just for rock.

Suggestions?? Help!
