"Rega decks are junk..."I won't say junk. But as far as I know, at every price level, Regas are the same basic design: Rigid belt-driven platter with an AC-synchronous motor. Any number of budget tables from the 1970s (Sansui, Technics, Dual, etc) use the same basic design, and can probably be brought to comparable levels of performance with a new belt and a few judicious tweaks, provided the arm is decent. In fact, that's what I did with a Sansui that my parents got at a church thrift store. After I put together my Russco rig, I gave it to a buddy who, as far as I know, is still using it.
