hearing how you and kavakidd jury-rigged your 10" inner sleeves to fit into the old cover is making me question what i thought was somewhat common practice among the geekier of us - storing the LP out of the cover.generally speaking, i put the record in an inner sleeve and then put both it and the cover into an outersleeve - back to back. this way when i pull a record off the shelf, i don't need to take the cover out of the outer sleeve or more importantly, the record out of the cover - with possible risk to the seams and possibly even the record if there is some debris in there.
anyway, i am generally not what i consider overly cautious - i think nothing of putting my most valuable records on the table for repeated plays, but i have grown fond of my storing the LP next to the cover, not in it. now i wonder if i am a bit crazy and maybe even foolish - am i risking more damage than i am mitigating?
anyone have opinions in this matter?
