That's the fast answer. It really depends on the cartridges and your ears. If you have a tonearm that allows for adjustment of the Vertical Tracking Angle (or VTA), you want to find a height that doesn't make the sound too bright, but ensures the music has life. If the bass is too light and the sound too bright, by lowering the VTA, you solidify the bass and darken the sound a bit. If the bass becomes too wooly, the VTA is too low.
