Nicam, Near Instantaneous Compressed Audio Modulation - big long words meaning "stereo".

We don't hear stereo in the real world. It is artificial and an illusion. Therefore, I believe, subject to an enormously wide variety of faults such as imaging. But I still think its very cool on Kansas Point of Know Return to hear the lead guitar sliding from speaker to speaker.

I would tend to agree with 2395. If your mono is playing well it does not sound to me like a system problem. More likely the vinyl.
