I have sililar complaints about the lack of consistency in LP reissues. In particular the reissues from Scorpio (mostly Jazz). Warped, noisy pressings, mediocre mastering.
Too many of the Audiophile reissues try to muck with the original mix. The most common thing is to spread the drum image across the whole sound stage.
I have had really good luck with Sundazed vinyl though.
Also Venus Jazz from Japan is excellent quality recordings, when you can get them.
About 15 years ago, in response to friends complaining about the price of jazzLPs, I posted a list of 200 original Jazz LPs that you could find for $5. or less. Now some prices have gone up over the years, but there is a lot of great Jazz on LP without thaving to go Blue Note or Prestige or Riverside etc.
