That a really quiet motor is necessary to get the dynamic advantages of tape without paying some price in motor vibration being coupled back into the platter. Teres motors are pretty quiet, but the noise floor dropped further when CB demoed a motor wrapped in cocobolo veneer. That extra damping made a nice improvement, so I know my unwrapped motor is contributing some audible noise - though no visitor would notice without doing an A/B.Still, on my "noisy" rig thread just doesn't compare with 1/2" tape. It's not even close. Stylus drag is audible even with a 35 lb. platter. This is why people report the new Teres DD models are so much more dynamic.
