While acoustic treatments are important, "tuning your room" is only part of the problem. "Room proportion" is the other half of the acoustic riddle that, it seems, few of us ever or talk or even think about... Perhaps too many of us are stuck with the listening room we have and we can't be troubled to do anything about it? I've turned to headphone listening with my AKG K-1000's, partly because I've resolved never to bother with loudspeaker listening again until I can acquire a dedicated listening room that is both properly treated AND properly proportioned. I can take the shrunken soundstage of headphone listening, but I've had it with listening to distorted sound from a deficient loudspeaker system.
