Re: Thorens TD125 MK II--Ping: Fred J-arm suggestion

David,

Congrats on the 125. I have had mine for over 30 years, and it still plays great. Just wish I could say the same for some of the old vinyl. I've got a bunch of the old Telarc and Crystal Clear Direct-to-disc recordings, and there's so much groove noise. Yet, some other (cheaper) recordings play as clean as a whistle (well, OK--some old dust pops and clicks). Using a Stanton 881 which, of course, is an MC cart.

Not familiar with the Hadcock, though I've not spent much time on audio the last 6 years or so. BW takes up a lot of my time---and money! BUT, I decided I wanted to put my 125 back in top shape, and I feel it is.

As for the groove noise mentioned above, I am confident it comes from the recordings, NOT from my table. When I began my current (minor) restoration project, I found the bearing to be still beautifully polished. I cleaned the well as mentioned in the various Thorens sites referenced in the Thorens threads here in Audio Asylum, then used synthetic oil to relube the bearing. The table spins quite nicely. Plus, I did a bit more vibration isolation when I remounted the chassis in the plinth. My table sits on a solid cabinet which, itself sits on a concrete slab floor. So, it is fairly well damped from external vibration and other interference.

Well, I ramble. Enjoy your Thorens--they are great tables.
