I had a similar series of unfortunate events that reached a similar result with my Clearaudio Aurum Beta S Mk II - and reached the conclusion that retipping is a fairly hopeless notion.I posted about this a while back, and from the replies and other threads I could find, gathered that the stylus from a Linn K-9, after some plastic surgery (removing a plastic thingamajiggy) could yield a replacement. I have yet to try that - perhaps not much to lose, since I think I could still trade it (the cart) in for a new one even if I f'ed up the K-9 kludge. Problem is, a stylus for a K-9 is also somewhat hard to find.
So, I got myself a Shure M97XE for now while I ponder the choices - send back the cart plus $300 and get a new one that I will later not be able to retip, do so after finding a K-9 to cannibalize and maybe still end up sending it back, or just trying a new manufacturer that offers a realistic retipping option...
Meanwhile, I'm kind of liking the Shure, and loving the price ($67 on ebay) and thinking maybe I should troll the lower end of the price range for a while...
Good luck - sorry to hear that happened - I can still remember the sick feeling when my cantilever crumpled between my well-intentioned but misguided fingers...Doh!
