Disaster at the DeRomas - CD vs vinyl gets violent

Last night while making some cable adjustments at the back of my rack I accidentally pushed a half-dozen CDs off the top shelf. Even though the TT should be protected by the shelf (i.e. it does not stick out), one CD managed an acrobatic feat of bouncing and hit my cartridge square on the nose (cantilever). It looked like the perfect revenge of the CDs (they have been collecting dust lately).

The cartridge I had on at the time was the Clearaudio Aurum Beta Wood (my most expensive purchase at $400). The cantilever was bent horizontally some 45 degrees at 1/3 of the way looking something like this: __/, and was also a bit twisted.

I tried to straighten it and I managed to make it look normal, but it's still twisted and under microscope the azimuth off by quite a bit.

I have a feeling that it's hopeless and I probably need new cantilever/stylus. I am going to contact the Clearaudio distributor to see how much that's going to cost, but if you have other suggestions I am open to it. I don't know what the cart body might be worth without the stylus assembly.

Alberto
