High Fidelity Article from ca. 1979 - Rake Angle is the critical parameter

136.226.254.42

The long-defunct High Fidelity magazine once published an article in which listening tests were carried out using non-conical stylii.

They noted that the sound would "lock-in" when playback rake angle matched the record rake angle.

When vertical tracking angle was matched, this lock-in effect was not noted.

I have since always assumed that when I was able to optimize (lock-in) the sound of record playback, I had matched rake angles.
