I think the stylus on my Ortofon was worn...

And I got proof of that this morning. I decided to spin a 7" 45 single version of Atlanta Rhythmn Section's So Into You on Polydor and it sounds fine.
But when I tried to record that song the other week with the Ortofon, it was unuseable. Mistracked something fierce and it never did so before.
Now not the whole record was affected, but about halfway through it was.
So yes, the stylus was definately on the way out on that one. Glad I moved ahead and got the Shure for more than a fresh stylus. :-)
As they say, if you know your tip is shot and you are not enamored with the overall tonal balance of a cart, might as well kill two birds with one stone.
