I've had a Platine for about four years. I don't use the ball bearing. Mine was set up by Graham Tricker at GT Audio (The UK Verdier distributor). He never uses the ball bearing either on his demo/show TTs or on customer's. What does make a huge difference is a Battery PSU. I use GT Audio's Battery PSU and the noise floor drops substantially and hence increases perceived dynamic range. My Platine carries a Schroeder Model 2 and Allaerts MC1B.
