Hear,There and Everywhere, the reason Abbey Road sounds different is because EMI had replaced the tubed console with a new one that was all transitors. This was the only EMI recording of the Beatles at AR to use them. Apparently, the only real happy elemant about the making of Abbey Road is that everyone was in agreement that it would be the last Beatles album. I don't know if mono versions exist of LIB or AR. I have seen one AR on ebay advertised as mono and in South America. I believe the last mixed to mono Beatles album is the White Album. I have one and enjoy it. If I were going to recommend mono Beatles albums it would be original Parlophone With The Beatles and Sgt.Pepper. The Pepper album sounds completely different as John's involvement is much more pronounced. Stereo versions make it seem like he was barely there. An original mono With The Beatles, on Parlophone but pressed deep-groove by Decca, would be the holy grail if you can find one. I've seen them but they are pricey.
