Whether you agree or not, there something extremely important being said.

If you feel that VTA and/or SRA are extremely important, then you must take notice of some things pointed out in Gandy's note. The temperature in the room can significantly affect these angles. A small change in VTF has a signficant change in these angles. Also, as others have pointed out, different record thicknesses affect the angle. Furthermore, even a small warp introduces angle changes as the record goes around.

In the end, it is matter of of the magnitude of the effect. No one would argue that changing these angles by ever-increasing amounts will ultimately affect the sound. The question is how accurately it/they need to be set. Some people argue that a fraction of a millimeter change in arm height has a significant effect on sound. A one mm change in height changes the angle about 1/4 degree. If this is important to you, you need an arm whose height is always being adjusted, as evironmental and the cirscumstances of individual records chnage the angle by much more than this all the time. About 4 mm (1/6 inch) of arm height change corresponds to a one-degree change in VTA, which is comparable to the changes you might get from environmental changes. So, you have to ask yourself: how much obsessing am I going to do about this?

By the way, I think this is another ideal case for making CD-R recordings of each setting of VTA as you adjust. Later you can go back at your liesure and decide which was best. You can even do it blind with the help of a willing friend.
