I solved the problem. Here's what I did: I removed the platter. Then I removed the circlip from the white plastic gear. Then I removed the gear. I lubricated the cam slot (and a few of the teeth while I was at it) and replaced it. Voila! I guess it makes sense that something like that needs to be relubricated, since it was made in 1978. I used White Lithium Grease. Thanks four help TPAO. Much appreciated.
