It appears that one of the factors which receives inadequate attention in tonearm design is the relationship between the stylus, the pivot and the centre of mass.The ideal appears to be to have all three in the same horizontal plane, that being the plane of the "read" surface of the record. Small changes in the alignment of the pivot WRT the stylus would make for changes in the degree to which the torque around the pivot is modulated by stylus drag force.
