Re: No seriously, why does my Rega SUCK?

Hate to jump in here this late in the game but I get the feeling some may not be making the distinction between the Planar 2/3 or the P2/3 versions of the tables. I know that design wise, it was more a motor and motor mount redesign more than anything else but still...

According to the Rega website, when Rega did an overhaul of the Planar 2 and 3 tables, they simply went to P2/P3, rather than Planar, that and the motor redesign as mention in the above paragraph.

And what was the initlal poster's other equipment, ie, phono stage etc that the table was connected to? That can have an effect on the sound as well as the cart /arm/table combo.

I've heard the newer P3's a couple of times at a stereo shop so have some idea of it's sound characteristic, and I think they had the Rega carts as well (probably the Elis, I forget) but am not overly familiar with the table otherwise. Sounded fine to me although I'd probably not choose the cart that I heard on it, but something a little less forward would be my choice.

I would venture that the P2 isn't as good as the P3 and if I were purchasing a Rega, the P3 or higher would be my choice overall.
